The Gregorian Book of Silos. 2 CD set -- incredible value! Between the 11th and 12th centuries, at the Abbey of Santo Domingo de Silos, the melodies of the Hispanic and Mozarabic liturgy were slowly replaced by the Gregorian melodies of the Roman liturgy. Since then, except for an interval of forty-five years during the 19th century, the Gregorian chant has been the faithful companion of the choral oration of the Benedictine community. After the first half of the 20th century, the monks understood the importance of the new technologies available in the field of communication. Thus, invited by the Seminary of Longrono, they didn't hesitate to record their Gregorian chants for the first time. Their intention was to use theses recordings as an effective way to spread their liturgical song throughout seminaries and parishes as part of the liturgical movement happening at that time in Europe. Now, for the first time, these recordings are available on CD, not only as a valuable historical document, but also for the benefit of those who wish to enjoy them as a musical and religious contribution form the Monks of the Abbey of Santo Domingo de Silos.
