English translation of
Christus Natus Est Nobis
Invitatory for the Divine Office of Matins on Christmas Eve
VERSE:
Christ is born to us: Come, let us adore him.
Come, let us exult in the Lord, let us rejoice in God, our salvation:
Let us fall down before his face, confessing, and rejoicing in him
with Psalms.
Christ, etc.
Because God is a great Lord, and a great King over all gods:
therefore the Lord will not reject His people:
because all the ends of the earth are in his hand,
and he observes the heights of the mountains.
Come, let us...etc.
Because the sea is his, and he made it,
and he fashioned the dry places with his hands:
(All Kneel)
Come, let us adore, and fall down before God:
let us weep before the Lord, who made us,
because He is the Lord our God;
and we are his people, and the sheep of his flock.
Christ, etc.
Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts,
as your fathers did in the
day of temptation in the desert,
when they tempted Me in their extremity,
they tested and saw my works.
Come, let us...etc.
I was close to this generation
for nearly forty years
and said: These always err in heart;
But they have not known my ways:
to whom I swore in my anger:
If they shall (ever) enter into my rest...
Christ, etc.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the
beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.
Christ, etc.
